Drop a Markdown file into this window or choose “Open file”. Ctrl+O (Mac: ⌘O) opens the file picker. Ctrl+P (Mac: ⌘P) opens the print dialog. Adjust text size with A− and A+.
“Export HTML” creates a standalone document without application controls or scripts. The export uses a light theme and your chosen text size. Select “Print / PDF”, then “Save as PDF” or a PDF printer in your browser. PDF output is produced by the browser.
Headings H1–H6, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, nested lists, task lists, tables, quotes, links and code. Files: .md, .markdown, .mdown, .mkd and .txt, up to 2 MiB. UTF-8 and UTF-16 with a BOM are supported. Invalid UTF-8 is retried as Windows-1252.
Mermaid diagrams and LaTeX formulas remain source text. Embedded HTML is shown as text. Images appear as placeholders; MDview does not load image files. Relative file links and unresolved anchors are disabled. Task lists are read-only. Code has no automatic syntax highlighting.
MDview does not fetch external libraries, fonts or content. MDview sends no documents or telemetry. Only your manual language choice is stored locally if the browser allows it. MDview does not persist documents or filenames. Moving the HTML file may reset the language choice. External websites open only when you click a link. If you open a hosted copy, its web server receives the page request, but MDview does not upload your Markdown files.
Use a current desktop browser with JavaScript enabled. The browser must allow local HTML files. MDview requires no web server and no installation.
